Pavers in Scottsdale, AZ

Solterra installs paver patios, driveways, walkways and pool decks across Scottsdale, from the North Scottsdale foothill estates of DC Ranch, Grayhawk and Troon North to Old Town. On desert-foothill lots, pavers set on a compacted base flex with caliche and grade instead of cracking like slab concrete, and their light tones and clean borders clear strict HOA design review.

Scottsdale runs from Old Town's older interior lots up to the desert-foothill estates of North Scottsdale, and the paver work changes with the terrain. In DC Ranch, Grayhawk, Troon North and McDowell Mountain Ranch, lots sit against the McDowell Mountains with real grade, wide view corridors and budgets that expect the backyard to match the house. Closer in, McCormick Ranch and Gainey Ranch bring flatter, established lots inside master-planned communities. What ties the city together is the same desert reality: caliche under the topsoil, extreme summer heat and full sun, and a monsoon that dumps water fast from July into September. Pavers are the surface built for all of it, which is why they are one of our most requested installs across Scottsdale.

Almost every Scottsdale community we work in runs an architectural review committee, and North Scottsdale's design guidelines are among the strictest in the Valley. Grayhawk, DC Ranch, Troon North and Gainey Ranch all review exterior materials, colors and layout before you can break ground. Pavers work in our favor here. A defined border, a consistent laying pattern and a premium, natural finish read as an upgrade to any review board, not a variance risk. We design to the approved desert palette, keep tones in the lighter earth range the guidelines tend to favor, and prepare the plans and material specifications you submit for approval. Since 2012 we have taken Scottsdale projects through design review without the back-and-forth that stalls a build.

On North Scottsdale's foothill lots, the ground itself is the project. Caliche sheds water instead of absorbing it, and on a sloped estate lot that means monsoon runoff moves fast and finds the low point, often a patio or a foundation. A poured slab has no way to give when caliche heaves, so it cracks. We excavate to a real depth, compact an engineered aggregate base, and set the pavers with sand-locked joints so the field flexes and settles evenly. We grade every surface to carry water off the hardscape and away from the house, tying into the drainage a hillside site demands. For the long estate driveways common up here, we build a deeper base rated to carry vehicle weight without rutting or sinking.

Scottsdale sits in Zone 9b with months of full sun, so surface temperature matters. We steer homeowners toward lighter paver tones and travertine that stay cooler underfoot, which also happens to suit the desert palette review boards prefer. Around existing pools, paver and travertine decks and coping are some of our most requested Scottsdale work. To be clear, Solterra does not build, install or remodel pools. We design and build the hardscape around the pool you already have, tying the deck into the patio, outdoor kitchen and fire features so the whole yard reads as one space. We also install front walkways, courtyards and entry approaches that lift curb appeal on Old Town and interior lots where the front yard does the talking.

Pavers in Scottsdale: common questions

How much do pavers cost in Scottsdale, AZ?

Paver projects in Scottsdale typically run about 18 to 30 dollars per square foot, driven by the paver material, the base and drainage work a foothill lot needs, and site access. Long North Scottsdale driveways and travertine pool decks sit at the higher end. We give a firm, no-obligation estimate after seeing your lot.

Do I need HOA approval for pavers in Scottsdale?

Most Scottsdale communities do, and North Scottsdale's are strict. Grayhawk, DC Ranch, Troon North and Gainey Ranch all run architectural review for exterior changes. We design to the approved desert palette, keep tones in the lighter range the guidelines favor, and prepare the plans and material specs you submit, so approval stays straightforward.

Will pavers hold up on North Scottsdale's foothill lots?

Yes, and that is where they beat poured concrete. On sloped, caliche-heavy foothill lots, a rigid slab cracks when the soil heaves and monsoon water runs off fast. Set on a compacted base with proper grading and drainage, a paver field flexes with the ground and sheds runoff instead of splitting.

How long does a paver installation take in Scottsdale?

Most Scottsdale paver projects run about 2 to 6 weeks from break-ground to finish, depending on size, base and drainage work, and any grading a foothill lot needs. HOA design review in communities like DC Ranch or Grayhawk can add lead time before we start, which we plan around.

Do you install pavers around existing pools in Scottsdale?

We do. Paver and travertine pool decks and coping around existing pools are core Scottsdale work for us, and we tie the deck into the patio and fire features. Solterra does not build, install or remodel pools. We handle the hardscape and outdoor living around the pool you already have.
