Landscape Lighting in Scottsdale, AZ

Solterra designs and installs low-voltage LED landscape lighting across Scottsdale, from North Scottsdale foothill estates in DC Ranch and Troon North to the master-planned lots of Grayhawk and Gainey Ranch. We light paths, uplight saguaros, wash retaining walls, and illuminate the deck around your existing pool, never the pool itself, using shielded, warm fixtures that meet Scottsdale's dark-sky expectations.

In Scottsdale, AZ the yard is barely usable by day for much of the year, so the hours that matter are after sundown. Lighting is what turns a patio, a drive or a planting bed into a space you actually spend evenings in, and in a city built around resort-grade outdoor living it is one of the highest-return upgrades we install. A well-planned low-voltage system does three jobs at once: it makes steps, drives and grade changes safe to cross, it lifts curb appeal from the street, and it puts the architecture of the yard, the walls, the saguaros and the pavers, on display all night.

Scottsdale takes night lighting more seriously than almost anywhere in the Valley. The city's outdoor lighting ordinance limits glare and light thrown up into the sky, and the design-review boards in North Scottsdale communities like DC Ranch, Troon North and Grayhawk enforce their own dark-sky standards on top of it. We design to that from the first fixture: shielded, warm-white LEDs aimed down or close to the surface, with no harsh floods blasting past the rooflines. The result reads intentional and resort-grade, keeps the night sky dark the way North Scottsdale wants it, and sails through architectural review. If your HOA needs a submittal, we supply the fixture cut sheets.

Most Scottsdale yards use a mix of techniques planned together, so the result is one design rather than a scatter of bright spots. On the foothill estate lots of North Scottsdale and Scottsdale Mountain, uplighting is where the desert shines: a single well-aimed fixture turns a saguaro, an ocotillo or a mature palo verde into a sculptural silhouette against the house, and grazing light across a block wall or a retaining wall shows off the grade and stonework these hillside lots are built around. Path and step lights make the long drives and grade changes safe after dark. Around an existing pool we light the deck, coping and surround only. To be clear, Solterra does not build or install pools, and we never light the pool shell itself, just the hardscape around it.

An outdoor lighting system in Scottsdale has to survive what a milder climate never tests. Fixtures bake in Zone 9b sun, then get hit with blowing dust and driving monsoon rain, so we use sealed, heat-rated LED fixtures in brass or copper that will not corrode or fog like the cheap cast-aluminum units in big-box kits. Burying the low-voltage cable is its own desert problem, because North Scottsdale caliche is cement-hard, so we route and trench the wire carefully rather than forcing it, and seal every connection against moisture. We size the transformer with headroom, set a photocell or timer so the system comes on at dusk on its own, and because it is low-voltage we can extend it easily as your planting fills in. Lighting also retrofits cleanly into a finished Scottsdale yard without tearing up the patio or beds.

How much does landscape lighting cost in Scottsdale?

Most low-voltage lighting projects in Scottsdale run about 200 to 400 dollars per fixture installed, which covers the fixture, wiring, transformer share and labor. A handful of accent lights costs far less than lighting a whole North Scottsdale estate. We walk the yard at dusk and quote a firm, no-obligation number.

Will the lighting meet Scottsdale's dark-sky and HOA rules?

In almost all cases, yes. Scottsdale's outdoor lighting ordinance and the design-review boards in DC Ranch, Troon North and Grayhawk restrict glare and uplight into the sky. We use shielded, warm-white fixtures aimed down or across surfaces, not floods blasting upward, so the design stays within the rules. If your HOA has a submittal process, we provide the fixture details.

Will the fixtures survive Scottsdale heat and monsoon storms?

Yes, with the right fixtures. We install sealed, heat-rated LED units in brass or copper that shrug off 115-degree sun, blowing dust and monsoon rain far better than the cast-aluminum fixtures in big-box kits. Every wire connection is sealed against moisture, and quality LED fixtures typically run many years without a bulb change.

Can you add lighting to a Scottsdale yard that is already built?

Yes. Low-voltage lighting is one of the easiest systems to retrofit, so we regularly add it to finished patios, existing paver work, pool decks and mature desert planting without tearing anything up. We handle the low-voltage side, and the transformer plugs into an existing exterior outlet. If new outlet or panel work is needed, that is a licensed electrician's job.
